Should you do pilates?

Plus: The NPL has a new commissioner

I originally said no

Call your friends, your family, your cat, your dog, your goldfish, your crocodile, your partner, and even the person they tell you not to worry about, and tell them that PickleWho has a new blog post. This one.

Here is the news!

  • The NPL has a new commissioner

  •  Should you do pilates?

  • MLP Challenger Level Draft is over

NPL’s new commissioner is…

Not Gordon 🙁.

Its new commissioner is no other than Stu Upson, CEO of USA Pickleball. Mr. Upton will start his new role on June 1 and, as a good American, he will keep both jobs because the economy is in a weird place right now.

The NPL is one of the many professional pickleball leagues in the U.S. –at this rate, we’ll have 400 leagues by 2025 —; but it comes with a twist. Every player is +50 years old. And no, you can’t beat them, trust me. Players will compete for $100,000 prize money, so maybe I’ll get a fake ID and give it another try.

Pilates and pickleball go out for a date

“I woke up at 6 AM to do Pilates!”, is what some used to say to feel superior. Now, it turns out you could say it too to improve your pickleball skills as it:

- Develops balance and precision

- Enhances flexibility.

- Boosts power and control by working on your core strength.

- It isn’t CrossFit, thank God.

Wanna start? Consider acquiring a Reformer, that is pilates equipment that includes a sliding carriage, springs, ropes, and pulleys. The green juice is sold separately.

MLP Challenger Level draft is done!

The MLP has two separate leagues: Premier-level and Challenger-level. Since most people think the Challenger level is easier than the Premier side, I’d advise them to buy red wine, sit in a hot tub and give it another thought because their latest draft featured serious business:

- The D.C. Pickleball Team made their first pick in none other than former professional tennis player and champion of the APP Sacramento Open Judit Castillo.

- AZ Drive selected John Cincola, silver medalist at the US Pickleball Open.

- Texas Ranchers selected Tina Pisnik, former tennis pro and undoubtedly the draft’s MVP.

This increase in the Challenger level side has officially reduced my chances of participating in the MLP from zero to -7000. If you are in my position, I suggest you try an easier sport.

Maybe Padel.
