if you build it…

Hello, folks! Welcome back to Picklewho, the #1 pickleball news blog. It’s Tuesday, which means I’m on my fourth cup of coffee because I spent Monday night binge-watching three different series… I’m great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(please send an ambulance. With more coffee)

This is the news!

  • Pickleball in Fenway Park??

  • NFL player finds a true sport

  • PPA Red Rock Open is over: final standings are here.

Is Fenway Park ditching baseball?

Fenway Park is widely known as a mecca of baseball, a place where Boston Red Sox fans come to support their team, trash-talk other players, and eat overpriced hot dogs. But what if I tell you that the iconic stadium will now become a massive pickleball venue? Because that’s exactly what’ll happen…

Temporarily.

A dozen pickleball courts will be added to the stadium's outfield later this month, as Fenway Park becomes the host of the Ballpark Festival Series by Pickleball4America (P4A). The cool thing is you won't have to play pickleball fearing that a homerun will hit you in the head as the festival will take place while the Red Sox play away.

So, it’s a tremendous opportunity to tell your friends “I won a few games in Fenway Park, no big deal”.

Rob Gronkowski falls in love with pickleball

Turns out Rob Gronkowski isn’t only a four-time Super Bowl champion and Tom Brady’s best friend. He’s much more than that. He’s a pickleball lover.

Recently, the Patriots’ legend made it very clear that he’s not coming back to NFL –good for you and your skull’s well-being, Mr. Gronkowski–, but instead, he’ll try his luck with competitive pickleball.

According to Rob himself, he’s “competing and winning” and I only hope he’s not including “tackling”.

PPA Red Rock Open is over

Despite the absence of Anna Leigh Waters and Ben Johns, the PPA Red Rock Open was like going to a party with no expectations and ending up dancing on top of a table at 5 AM. Truly a terrific tournament.

The big winner was Tyson McGuffin, who crushed newbie Pablo Tellez 11-9, 11-7 to win gold in the Men’s Single format; and joined Brendon Long to become champion of the Men’s Doubles. On the women’s side, Catherine Parenteau earned the gold with an 11-1, 11-6 victory over Salome Devidze; while Megan Sheehan-Dizon and Etta Wright took the gold in the Doubles competition.

What a weekend in Utah, huh?...said no one ever before this one.
