Plus: John McEnroe is competing

#stayThirsty

Hello, everyone! This is Picklewho, the best place for pickleball news written by a guy whose other sports’ knowledge begin and end at “That guy Messi is quite good”. Well, I also know my tennis, but who wants to talk about that? Ugh.

Without further ado, here’s the news!

  • John McEnroe is competing for a $1 million prize… But he doesn’t like the sport?

  • Official pickleball drink incoming!

  • The Association of Pickleball Professionals’ latest stats are quite impressive

What are you doing, John McEnroe?

The Pickleball Slam is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated tournaments of the year, with tennis legends John McEnroe and Andre Agassi facing each other for the first time in decades. It's like watching Messi and Ronaldo (had to look that up) playing against each other in 2045. Yes, it would have reduced mobility and agonizing kneecaps, but it’d still be a cool match.

So, where’s the catch with this one? Well, Mr. McEnroe recently declared “I don't enjoy pickleball. tennis is my game”, like only a mad man would say. That's like meeting your in-laws during dinner and instantly telling them their food sucks.

I get that inviting legends to play pickleball boosts the sport. Next time maybe invite people who actually enjoy it.

The official pickleball drink

Innovative and new to many Americans who have survived years with nothing but Coke, pickleball is officially introducing: “Water”.

Ok, that ain’t true. I know most of you have drunk water before. The new official drink is DINK, an isotonic beverage dedicated to pickleball players and available in four flavors – lemon lime, orange, pineapple, and tears from players who lose the games…or whatever Ben Johns drinks. The brand also signed a deal with USA Pickleball, which means that we’ll see it more often.

New survey data from the Association of Pickleball Professionals

According to data released by the APP, ___ is officially the best pickleball blog on the planet. Pluto, by the way.

Pickleball’s governing body also conducted a new research on pickleball adoption over the country and the results are fascinating. For starters, 19% of US adults have played pickleball at least once this year. That's 48.3 million Americans, which, if you do the math, is 40 million people.

Other interesting data is that 40% of those who play pickleball are in the 25-34 age bracket compared to the 19% of players who are over 45 years old, once again debunking the stereotype of “only homeowners play pickleball”.
