Centennial to put a ban on pickleball

Plus: Dude Perfect enters the pickleball investors club

bans = bad

Hello, everyone! This is Picklewho, the best source for pickleball content on the Internet. Today this site is sponsored by Local Gym, my local gym, which is a terrible place to exercise, yet a terrific place to take selfies. So at least my Tinder profile looks somewhat decent!

Now, forward to pickleball news:

  • Centennial to put a ban on pickleball (yes, this is a real news)

  • Dude Perfect enters the pickleball investors club.

  • Cheating sucks, especially on sports

Centennial hates pickleball

By the way, we are not talking about a literal real Tik Tok-life centennial, but about the city of Centennial, Colorado, where a bunch of Centennial boomers (pun intended) in the administration are pushing a bill to ban pickleball for at least 6 months.

Why? The usual: it’s “too noisy”, “people complain”, “it’s not what Christ wanted”. And now the government wants to take measures to stop it. The potential ban, which will be voted over on March 21st, would affect pickleball courts within 500 feet of homes.

So, for all our Centennial readers: we’re with you. Stay strong.

Dude Perfect now have their own pickleball team

Dude Perfect, one of the most popular YouTube channels, recently announced a $5 million investment to buy the pickleball franchise Frisco Clean Clause. And yes, I know “Frisco Clean Clause” is a hilarious name that sounds more like a cleaning service than an actual team. Still, cool news!

The deal’s details, aka da-dits if you’re cool, are mostly unknown, but what we do know is that Frisco will be one of the 24 teams of the MLP.

With this deal, Dude Perfect joins a selective group of investors that includes LeBron James, Patrick Mahomes and Mark Cuban, which once again boosts YouTube legitimacy as a real job…and now I’m afraid Mr. Beast will feel tempted to buy the entire sport and give it away to his friend with the most acne.

Are there pro athletes cheating on pickleball?

This topic brings back Lance Armstrong memories and ugh, I can’t believe I bought 20 of these “Livestrong” wristbands to support the guy…And here’s the deal, though.

(Don’t read that last line fast).

Some pro pickleball players are hinting that there are potential cheaters in the sport. One of them, Lucy Kovalova, even said that testing players before a tournament would translate in a lot of them “not being able to make it”.

Others have pointed out the use of illegal paddles, and though it’s all conjecture, the gossip is 1) ethically worrisome, and 2) absolutely entertaining. Let’s proper check all players, and if any are found to be cheaters, we know what to do:

Make them play tennis.
